FROM a Deaf student at a special school in Seoul
TO a global engineer in North America

Hello. This is Jae, and I’m glad you’re here.

Born with profound hearing loss and microtia, I began my education at a special school for the Deaf in Korea. From there, I transitioned into mainstream education, graduated from an international high school, and made it to Duke University to study biomedical engineering—only to LEAVE THE U.S. due to family and health challenges.

After years of detours, I found my way back to school and to a new path in Canada, where I now study computer science at York University and work as a software engineer.

So… what happened between those moments? What was it like to leave everything behind and start over, again and again?

I want to share these STORIES here.

✨ My experiences studying in the U.S. and Canada
💻 The challenges of becoming a developer with a disability
🌍 Lessons I’ve learned working globally, rebuilding after failure, and adapting to change

I hope this space becomes a small but honest reflection of everything I’ve lived through—and that something in my story might resonate with or encourage you.

Thanks for stopping by. I’m building this space slowly—but with you, and for you.

Jaehoon
